Lakewood Township neuroma
If you are suffering with foot pain, you should visit our office, Dr. Theodore D’Amato for diagnosis and treatment. A common cause of foot pain is
Lakewood Township neuroma, which can be easily diagnosed and treated by our podiatrist, Dr. Theodore D’Amato.
Neuroma is a foot condition which can be very painful; it is also referred to as a pinched nerve or a nerve tumor. A neuroma is a benign growth of nerve tissue that is commonly found between the third and fourth toes. A neuroma can cause pain, burning, tingling or numbness between the toes, and possibly in the ball of the foot. Generally, when a patient has a neuroma they will feel foot pain when walking. Many times when a patient has a neuroma, pain can be eased when they take off their shoes, and rub their foot. Sometimes the patient feels as though they have a stone in his or her shoe. Neuromas are much more commonly found in women, however, the exact cause for this foot condition is not known. Yet, it is known that there are several conditions that can contribute to the development of a neuroma. These can include: biomechanical problems of the foot, such as having flat feet; foot trauma causing damage to the nerves; shoes which are too tight; wearing high-heeled shoes; or repeated stress on this area of the foot. At the first sign of this type of foot pain, you should make an appointment to come in to see our doctor for treatment of your Lakewood Township neuroma. This is the best thing to do if you want to avoid needing foot surgery to correct the problem. Wearing certain types of shoes can relieve the symptoms, and help the condition to go away on its own. If the neuroma is very severe, surgery may be necessary to remove it. Our podiatrist may treat the neuroma with padding and taping, anti-inflammatory medications or cortisone injections; custom orthotics; or surgery.
