Brick foot fracture
Of all the structural injuries that can occur to your ankle or foot, probably the one that is most urgent is a
Brick foot fracture. Whether you are sure that you have suffered a broken bone or you just suspect you might, here at the office of Dr Theodore D'Amato, we want you to be seen promptly. An unaddressed fracture can lead to permanent damage, and that is something you can avoid by acting right away.
A Brick foot fracture, or ankle fracture, can be either hairline or full. With full fractures, it may be a clean break, in which you will only need to be put in a cast and stay off the foot for a specific period of time. More serious still is a fracture that has to be set. If you have had an accident and your situation is severe, don't hesitate to go straight to the nearest emergency room, or call 911. But many fractures can be treated right here at our office. Hairline fractures can mimic the signs of a sprain, which involves the ligament; or a strain, which affects the muscle. A physical examination of the foot and/or ankle will often be combined with x-rays so that a definitive diagnosis can be made. If the foot needs to be immobilized, you will be placed in a cast. What is certain, though, is that you will need to stay off the foot. Typically, crutches are the best way to accomplish this. About six to eight weeks is normal for recovery, although the exact amount of time will vary depending on several factors, including the severity of the fracture.
Call us to arrange an appointment to have your
Brick foot fracture treated. It is always best to seek out a specialist, and that is what you will get with our foot doctor.
