Being diabetic puts your feet at risk, and that includes possible deformities. Here at the office of Dr. Theodore D'Amato, diabetic shoes are one vital component in an overall strategy to maintain optimal foot wellness in the face of either type 1 or type 2 diabetes, and that includes the possible use of our
diabetic shoes Brick.
The first thing that is important to know is how diabetes can affect the well-being of your feet. Excessive blood sugar may lead to nerve damage, or neuropathy. Poor blood circulation to your extremities follows, as can issues that range from calluses to infections to foot ulcers. You should come in for a yearly examination by our foot doctor when you have diabetes, and perhaps more frequently than that if there is reason. This is in addition to performing self checks on your feet to make sure that there are no problems that need to be addressed. Neuropathy makes you less able to feel pain, which may sound like a desirable feature, but keep in mind that the pain is not there without cause. It's alerting you to something. When you come in for your examination, one of the things our foot doctor will check is the shape of your feet, because if you are determined to be a candidate for foot deformity, it will be necessary for you to wear our specially designed diabetic shoes Brick. Of course, it is always a good idea to keep a close watch on your blood sugar, and to keep on top of the recommendations on diet, exercise, and medication from your diabetes specialist and/or primary care doctor.
Our
diabetic shoes Brick are extremely helpful when deformities of the foot are a possibility. So contact our office to arrange an appointment to come in for an examination and evaluation.
